Street Co’s LED engineers and designers were contacted by Cartier, through the Alter projects team, to help to redesign a digital section of their boutique. This project was part of a global renovation of their boutique located in the famous luxury department store of Harrods London. The architectural team of Cartier knew exactly what impact they wanted to get from their customers. Their team were very customer-driven and wanted to get the best out of every single inch of this historical building.
The project first started with a preliminary concept design where we proposed different options with:

  • LCD dimension and sizings
  • Comparison with different technical LCD specification
  • Cabinet / structure size
  • Résolution
  • Weight and delivery
  • Consumption

Solution : using a Transparent LCD panel 65"

Street Co’ has provided the full turnkey solution.
We have used a: 65” Transparent LCD Specification with a 10m backlight behind the panels.

We have started by:

  • Consultation / Brainstorming to find the
  • best-suited hardware that fit both budget and end-customer requirements with several options as mentioned above
  • Proposing 3D visualisation of the final result on the LCD screen
  • Creating a full step section prototype to ensure we have taken into account all potential challenges
  • Proposed sizing / budget / resolution options for the customer to choose from
  • Detail execution plan with AutoCAD and DWG drawings
  • Teaming up with Italian metal fabricator of cabinets to enable a turnkey solution

Steps:

  • Engineering of the installation
  • Logistic, transportation and planning
  • On-site installation

This project has a 3 years free warranty under Street Co’s warranty program. Street Co also delivers a power and signal diagram and coordinates with local electrical contractors. Diagram showing the cabling system for powering the circuit and the signal of the LCD screen.

Challenge : set up Transparent LCD panel 65"

The Cartier team wanted to achieve full transparency with LCD screens. However, a transparent LCD with full 100% transparency doesn’t exist. On the backside of the transparent LCD we had a backlight with a 10cm width. The LCD screen is well known to be very dark and to be able to have a good level of transparency, so we needed a strong backlight behind it to diffuse the lights on the LCD panel. The assembly had not been made in the factory so it made the task harder. Knowing how fragile the LCD panels are, we had to come up with many onsite practical solutions.
